What to Expect at Your First IV Visit

A step-by-step look at a first IV therapy appointment in Lakeland: screening, the infusion itself, timing and aftercare.

Before your visit

Eat a light meal and drink water beforehand if you can. Bring a list of your medications and any allergies. Wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily.

Screening comes first

Your health history, medications, allergies and current symptoms are reviewed before any treatment. Sometimes the right answer is a different IV, a different care setting, or no IV at all. We will tell you honestly.

During the infusion

A small IV catheter is placed, usually in the arm. Most infusions take roughly 30 to 60 minutes. You can relax, read or rest in a comfortable clinical setting, and you can tell us at any time if something feels off.

Afterward

Most people return to their normal day. Mild tenderness at the IV site can happen. If you notice anything that concerns you, contact the office; for emergencies, call 911.
